The Silver Seas, the latest expansion for Age of Wonders 4, is out now. It introduces new seafaring gameplay, pirate-themed content and aquatic forms for players’ peoples, including features inspired by community requests, Triumph Studios said.
At the expansion’s centre is the Mercantile Culture, which lets players establish cities at sea and turn them into floating fortresses. Its pirate gameplay includes two approaches: the Cartel develops through smuggling and secrecy, while the Barony uses its wealth to place bounties on enemies and import supplies for its empire.
The expansion also adds two seafaring peoples, Sharkkin and Aqualon. Triumph said players had repeatedly requested shark-inspired forms, while interest in Aqualon grew after the studio shared concept art during development of the Eldritch Realms expansion.
Other additions include a Magic Tome focused on water magic, ice magic, pirate dwellings, pirate-themed stories and new sea creatures to battle. The studio also wrote a sea shanty for the expansion.
Triumph described The Silver Seas as the first release in Age of Wonders 4’s fourth set of expansions. The game is entering its fourth year and has become the longest-supported title in the franchise, according to the studio.
