Xbox has announced two new ways to play games through the cloud, both launching in preview. The features are intended to improve access and responsiveness, though each has specific device requirements.

The first preview lets players use an Android or iOS phone as a controller on supported smart TVs, including certain models from Amazon, LG and Samsung. To enable it, users need to turn on Preview Features under Settings > Account in the latest supported TV experience. When they launch a game without a physical controller connected, they can choose to use their phone for that session.

The second feature, called cloud connect, uses Wi-Fi to link the Xbox Nano Controller directly to the cloud server running a game, rather than connecting the controller to the TV over Bluetooth. Xbox says this may reduce input latency and make gameplay feel more responsive.

Cloud connect is available to preview for players in the U.S. using the Nano Controller. It can be tried on supported smart TVs and on the web, but Xbox notes that it does not yet work with every cloud gaming experience. Both features remain in preview as Xbox gathers feedback and continues shaping them.
