World of Warcraft: Forever is set to launch on November 5, 2026, marking one of the year's most anticipated titles. However, despite its significance for the gaming landscape, the release remains exclusive to PC and will not be available on Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S consoles at launch.
Despite this initial exclusivity, Blizzard has taken a significant step toward broader platform compatibility by implementing native controller support for the game. This update allows players to utilize gamepads effectively, making the title playable on hybrid devices such as the ROG Xbox Ally. This move signals a potential shift in strategy that could pave the way for a native console release in the future.
In a recent interview with GamesRadar, World of Warcraft Vice President Holly Longdale addressed whether the PC-exclusive launch represented a missed opportunity. Longdale stated that the company's goal is to allow players to experience the game "wherever you want and, at some point, on whatever you want." She emphasized that the immediate priority was ensuring gamepads function seamlessly with World of Warcraft, identifying Forever as the ideal starting point for this initiative.
Longdale further suggested that future platform availability would become more ubiquitous, specifically referencing Microsoft's Project Helix. By bringing World of Warcraft to devices that already support PC games, Blizzard aims to simplify the process of expanding to console ecosystems. The Vice President noted that the work on controller support offers flexibility that extends beyond traditional consoles.
While a release on current Xbox Series hardware is not confirmed for the immediate future, the combination of native controller support and executive comments points toward an eventual arrival on Xbox platforms, likely beginning with Project Helix.
