Corner Shop: NightShift is now available on Xbox Series X|S and PC, with Xbox Play Anywhere support. The psychological horror game puts players in the role of Adam Callahan, who works overnight at a small convenience store while facing family problems, financial pressure and declining mental health.

Instead of building horror around an obviously threatening setting, the game places unsettling moments amid familiar tasks: serving customers, restocking shelves, handling deliveries and checking security cameras. Blackouts, alarms and disturbing encounters interrupt the shift, while Adam’s uncertainty about what he has seen or remembers leaves players questioning what is happening.

The developers say they wanted Adam’s personal struggles to remain part of the gameplay rather than appear only in cutscenes. The store keeps operating even when he has difficult conversations or a bad night, and the routine of work becomes part of the story. Managing the shop also involves money and security upgrades, including cameras, alarms and stronger locks; working longer shifts can bring in money but has consequences through exhaustion.

The team consulted psychologists experienced in serious mental health conditions and specialists familiar with difficult family situations while developing and reviewing relevant dialogue and scenes. The developers say they aimed to avoid portraying mental illness as the monster or reducing Adam to a set of symptoms, while acknowledging that the fictional horror story sometimes heightens situations for tension.

Players’ decisions affect what they discover and which of the game’s four endings they reach. The developers describe the story not as a simple account of Adam’s collapse, but as one shaped by how he responds to problems that cannot be magically resolved.
